why foster with us?

support and rewards

finance and allowances

Here at Foster Wales Powys, we’re proud of the ongoing support we offer every single one of our foster carers and feel our foster allowance is highly competitive.

For example, right now in Powys there are Foster Carers who receive between £12,115 and £31,742 per year.

other benefits

There are more benefits to being a foster carer than you might think. As well as the support and allowances mentioned already, in Powys you’ll also get:

  • Membership to The Fostering Network
  • Carer’s library card

the foster wales national commitment

And there’s more! Foster Wales’ National Commitment provides each Foster Wales team with a support package for every one of our foster carers.

If you decide to join our Foster Wales family, you can expect to enjoy;

one team

Our Foster Wales Powys team are deeply integrated within the community which means we’ll work together with you and the children in your care as one combined service. As an integral part of our team, you’ll always be respected, valued and included, with the freedom to share your thoughts.

Becoming part of our Foster Wales Powys team means you’re joining the team responsible for every child in our local community who receives foster care. We work together to ensure each child and young person stays local in their area, making us unique as a foster care service.

learning and development

Part of our pledge to you as a carer is we’ll help you grow and develop in your role. We’ve purposefully created a framework of training, courses and further education to ensure you, and those in your care, get the maximum benefit.

We’ll supply all the tools you’ll need to make sure you feel confident and capable when meeting the needs of the children and young people in your care. And this doesn’t stop once you’ve finished caring for a child.

You’ll build on transferable skills and gain valuable life experiences whilst helping to plan for the future.

Once you join our Foster Wales Powys team, you’ll never be alone.

We’ve skilled and experienced social workers on hand to help you and your entire family for when you need it most. You’ll also gain access to our local support groups, each created to meet the different needs of our foster carers. From single parent groups, to specialist foster parents, you’ll join a whole host of new communities who can help share your experiences.

Our community in Powys is at the heart of everything and when you join us, you’ll be invited to a whole host of events and activities with other foster families.

You’ll have the opportunity to create new memories, make new friends and experience new things for both you and your foster child.

Joining our team means you’ll automatically gain a membership to both The Fostering Network (TFN) and the Association for Fostering and Adoption (AFA) Cymru for free. These specialist organisations offer a wealth of independent advice and support.

shaping the future

For every child and young person in foster care, their journey so far is important but not as important as their next one. As a team, we focus on their present and future potential, letting go of the past. As one of our foster carers, you’ll play a vital role in shaping their future too.

As a foster carer for Foster Wales you’ll also have the opportunity to have your voice heard. With regular opportunities to influence and consult our wider teams at Foster Wales, your own experiences will help shape the future for us all.
